Backing Up Exchange

DPX automatically detects if a Windows node is an Exchange server and which version of Exchange it is running. You should schedule Exchange backups for non-peak hours to avoid any negative impact they may have on performance. Exchange 2003/2007 can be backed up using File backup or Block backup.
You can control whether backup occurs at the database or folder level by using the Default MS Exchange Handling field on the File Backup Source Options dialog window.

Database Level Backup
EXCH$host_name disks appear on the File Backup window; EXFS$host_name disks do not appear. If you back up an entire server, database level backups are performed and folder level backups are not. Database Level Backup is the default.
Folder Level Backup
EXFS$host_name disks appear on the File Backup window; EXCH$host_name disks do not appear. If you back up an entire server, folder level backups are performed and database level backups are not.
Both Database and Folder Level Backup
All Exchange disks appear on the File Backup window. If you back up an entire server, both database and folder level backups of Exchange disks are performed.
