Setting Migrate Default Encryption Options

Use encryption options to control how and when a job is encrypted. For restore, these options are applicable only to File and Tape restores.

To check the default backup encryption options or edit default backup encryption options:

  1. Open the Configure Defaults window by selecting Configure from the Function Tab bar and clicking Defaults.

  2. Expand the Manage Tapes - Migrate options.

  3. Click the Migrate Encryption Options icon or name to select it. The selection is indicated by the selection check box next to the option icon, and the Migrate Encryption Options dialog appears.

  4. Optionally enter or revise Network Encryption options:

  • Network Encryption Encrypt data while transmitting it through networks to enhance security. Typically, the encrypted data transfer can lower the data transfer speed. Select Yes to enable the encrypted data transfer. Or, select No to transfer data without encryption.

    • Encrypt Data

Specifies if the data written to tape is encrypted. This option does not relate to data transport. If network transport encryption is important, use the Network Encryption option. Note that data that is already encrypted will not be re-encrypted.

      No data encryption

Data is not encrypted at the device server.

      Encrypt unencrypted data

Data is encrypted at the device server.

    • Encryption Type

Encrypts transmitted data at the hardware device.

      Software

Encrypts data while it is being transmitted through the network.

      Hardware

Encrypts data at the tape device.
