Block-level Recovery of Master Server Operating System

BMR is the most convenient tool to use for OS recovery. BMR does not require access to a master server, instead it reads open storage or NetApp storage directly and recovers the server as it was at the time of last backup. Note that BMR recovery does not guarantee that the master server Catalog is in a consistent state; a Catalog restore from media is still required after recovering the operating system.

If your block-level storage was affected by an outage and BMR cannot be used, then install a new operating system from the OS vendor’s media. As noted above, simplicity in recovering the environment should be considered but this can be an opportunity to upgrade the master server operating system and software versions if desired.
