Choosing Data to Restore for Tape Restore

You choose data to restore by using the Restore Volumes and Restore Patterns selection spaces (source trees) in the source pane on the Backup window.

See also. For more information about how to use the navigation trees in the Java-based DPX Management Interface, see the following document:

To specify the source volume:

  1. Right-click Restore Volumes, then select Add Restore Volume.

The Define Source Volume dialog box appears.

  2. Complete or modify the Volume Serial Number (volser) and the Partition Number of the partition on which the data can be found.

  3. If needed, repeat steps 1 and 2 to add more source volumes.

Tip. After you add them, you can edit or delete source volume definitions. Right-click the volume, then select a context menu entry.

To specify the tape source:

  1. Right-click Restore Patterns, then select Add Restore Pattern.

The Specify Resource for Tape Source dialog box appears.

  2. Complete or modify the fields to create a search pattern.

    • Node

Enter the name of the node on which the data was located when it was backed up. This is the logical node name, not the network resolvable node name. The node name is case sensitive so it needs to be exactly as defined in the Enterprise.

    • File System

Select the file system from which the data comes. Choices include:

      • UNIX

      • FAT

      • NTFS

      • FAT and NTFS

      • NetWare

      • NetWare – File System

      • NetWare – Server Specific Information

      • NetWare – Directory Server

      • NetWare – GroupWise System

      • NetWare – Cluster File System

      • NetWare – Other

      • OES Linux FS

For OES Linux with NSS, choose from the NetWare selections.

    • Disk

Enter the disk on which the data was located when it was backed up. Use the format appropriate for the original machine (i.e., on a Windows system C:).

    • Pattern

Enter search criteria for locating the files that you want to restore. You can use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard. An example of a pattern is *.cbl. DPX will restore all the files on the specified node and disk with the file extension .cbl created under the specified file system and originally located on the specified disk and node.

Note. You can only use one wildcard for each Tape Restore job definition.

  3. If needed, repeat steps 1 and 2 to add more source volumes.

Tip. After you add them, you can edit or delete source pattern definitions. Right-click the node, then select a context menu entry.
