Defining a Catalog Restore

DPX selects the master server node as the default Restore destination. Without this node defined, there is no Catalog restore destination. Thus, in disaster recovery situations, you may need to install DPX and define the master server node before performing the Catalog restore. For more information, see Chapter 3: Installation Overview in the Reference Guide.

To define a Catalog restore job:

  1. Add the media volumes containing the backed-up Catalog.

    1. Open the Define Source Volume dialog box by doing one of the following:

      • Right-click the Restore Volumes name or icon to display a context menu and select Add Restore Volume.

      • From the menu bar, select Catalog > Add Restore Volume.

      • On the task panel, click Add Restore Volume.

The Define Source Volume dialog box appears.

    1. Fill in the Volume Serial Number of the media volume that contains the backed-up Catalog.

    2. Fill in the Partition Number where the Catalog backup resides.

    3. Click OK.

Note. Sometimes Catalogs span media volumes. To define an additional volume, repeat Step 1. That is, continue adding volume numbers the same way you added the first until all volumes are added.

  1. Add the restore device.

    1. Open the Specify Restore Device dialog box by doing one of the following

      • Right-click the Device Cluster’s name or icon to display a context menu and select Add Restore Device.

      • From the menu bar, select Catalog > Add Restore Device.

      • On the task panel, click Specify Restore Device.

The Specify Restore Device dialog box appears.

    1. Fill in the Resolvable Node Name or IP Address of the restore device.

Note: Resolvable Node Name is case sensitive.

    1. Fill in the Device ID. An example of a Windows Device ID is \\.\Tape0.

Note. The Restore Catalog function cannot manipulate tape library arms, therefore enter the Device ID of the tape library drive where you have preloaded the media containing the Catalog backup to restore from. Use the detect utility to find the Device ID. See Chapter 34: Device Detection in the Reference Guide.

    1. Click OK.

At this point, run the Catalog restore or make corrections to the Restore Catalog definition.
