Adding Physical SharePoint Nodes to the Enterprise

Because a node in an Enterprise is always a member of a group, add new SharePoint physical nodes to the Enterprise using a specific node group association. Although it is not specifically required, it is recommended that you use the management console to create a new dedicated SharePoint physical node group for the SharePoint application. For instructions on adding a node group to the Enterprise, see Adding a Node in the Reference Guide.

To add a SharePoint node to a node group:

  1. Click the Configure tab, then click Enterprise.

  2. In the left pane, select the node group that should include this new node.

Note. You can add a stand-alone SharePoint physical node to any physical node group.

  1. On the Task Pane, click Add Node.

  2. A dialog appears in the right pane, where you enter information to define the node. For a description of the Add Node fields, see Adding a Node in the Reference Guide.

  1. Complete data entry for the Add Node fields, then click Add.

    • If you are not adding a SharePoint control node, you are finished with this Add Node procedure.

    • If you have an existing virtual node to represent the SharePoint farm, you are finished with this Add Node procedure.

    • If you are adding the first SharePoint control node for this SharePoint application, and there is no virtual node for this application, DPX will automatically add a new virtual node, then ask you to supply a virtual node name in the Input Node Name dialog box. (By default, DPX will use the configuration database’s name as the name for this new virtual node. If the configuration database name is less than 30 characters long, DPX will create a unique name for this virtual node, adding on the name of the server that hosts the configuration database.)

      1. After specifying the new name for the virtual node, click OK.

      2. A message box appears; it confirms the addition of a new virtual node to the Enterprise. Click OK.

      3. The new physical node appears in its physical node group, and a new virtual node appears in the new SharePoint_Group virtual node group.

Note. Use the Add Node function at any time to add a node to the Enterprise. Use this same procedure when adding a stand-alone SharePoint node to the Enterprise.
