Workflow for New Installation
The following table shows the workflow for first-time installation and initial configuration. For details on each step, references are provided to the appropriate topic.
Step | Description | Reference |
---|---|---|
1 | Read this introductory chapter. It provides general information related to installation and initial deployment. | |
2 | Deploy the master server software. This must be done directly on the node you choose for the master server. The master server is deployed as an OVA. | Chapter 5: Local Installation Go to the section for your operating system (Windows or Linux). |
3 | Install client software on device servers and client nodes. There are two methods of installation, remote (for Windows nodes only) or local. | |
3a | Remote deployment. For Windows nodes, you can install client software remotely, across the network from a single point. This frees you from running the installation program repeatedly for each machine. Remote deployment is recommended. | |
3b | Local installation. UNIX nodes and OES nodes must be installed locally. | |
4 | Use the Software Update System or manual procedures to install the latest updates of your DPX release. Installation is not considered to be completed until the latest software updates have been applied. | |
5 | Before proceeding to the next step, ensure you have installed DPX on device servers, either locally or remotely. This step is not required, but is recommended. It will facilitate initial setup by taking advantage of the Device Configuration Wizard, which can only configure device servers where DPX is installed. | |
6 | Ensure you understand how to protect and maintain the Catalog. | |
7 | Start using the management console to modify your initial Enterprise. | Launching the Java-based DPX Management Interface in the User's Guide |
