Deleting a Tape Library Device

Warning! Make sure the device you delete is not specified in any backup definition. This is especially important for scheduled backups because absence of a device specified in a backup definition causes the backup task to fail.

If you are deleting a SAN device, first make sure it is empty; that is, there are no device paths assigned to it.

To delete an existing device definition:

  1. Click Configure on the Function Tab bar of the window, then click Devices.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Right-click the device name or icon to display a context menu. Then select Delete. The selection is indicated by the selection check box next to the device cluster icon and the edit device dialog appears in the right pane.

    • In the left pane, select the device you want to delete and do one of the following:

      • From the menu bar, select Device > Delete Device.

      • On the task panel, click Delete Device.

A dialog box prompts you to confirm the deletion.

  3. Click Yes on the dialog box. The device disappears from the left pane.

Note. If the device is a SAN device and still contains device paths, a device not empty warning message appears. To empty a device, delete all device paths assigned to it.
