Protecting Agentless Backups

Process Overview: Catalogic DPX Archive jobs are generated through the job scheduler. For Agentless backup jobs to Catalogic vStor, the Catalogic DPX job scheduler includes an option to select a destination for the Catalogic DPX Archive. When scheduling an Agentless backup job, schedule at least two job schedule elements, one for the backup-to-vStor portion of your job and one for the Catalogic DPX Archive.

Take the following steps to protect the Agentless VMware Backups:

  1. Select the Backup Tab from the Function Tab Bar, then click Agentless VMware.

  2. Open an existing or define a new Agentless backup job to a vStor target.

  3. Schedule the Agentless backup-to-vStor portion of your job in the usual way. To do so, select Schedule the Backup Job to open the Job Schedule dialog. Then follow the instructions in Specifying a Schedule for the Backup Job in the Reference Guide. Be sure to select Backup in the Run field on the Schedule tab.

  4. Click Apply. The Backup-to-vStor schedule element is added to the Schedule Description list at the top of the Job Schedule dialog.

  5. Before clicking OK on the Job Schedule dialog, do the following:

    1. Click the New button.

    2. Select Archive to Media in the Run field on the Schedule tab.

    3. Select the Device Cluster for the DPX Archive portion of your job from the Device Cluster pull-down menu on the Schedule tab.

    4. Select the Media Pool for the DPX Archive portion of your job from the Media Pool pull-down menu on the Schedule tab.

    5. Select all other job schedule fields as needed. For definitions of additional fields, see Configuring Defaults in the Reference Guide

    6. Click Apply. The DPX Archive job schedule element is added to the Schedule Description list at the top of the window. You can tell it has been scheduled because it says “Backup to Media” in the Schedule Description.

  6. Complete the job schedule and click OK. Save the job when you have completed the job definition.

Ensure that both original and archive backup jobs run on time.

Note. On the Review Scheduled Jobs pane, the Job Type of the main agentless job displays as Backup Virtualization; the Job Type of the DPX Archive job displays as Backup Image.

In the log for the DPX Archive job, the name of the main job can be found by looking at the dpscript -prebackup -objob property near the top of the job log.
