Considerations for Restoring with Generic NDMP

Note the following considerations for NDMP restores:

  • Every backup you restore to an NDMP node must have its own restore definition. In a single restore definition, you cannot restore both NDMP data and non-NDMP data. In a single restore definition, you cannot restore data from more than one NDMP backup.

For example, if the following three items are backed up separately, three restore definitions are required to restore them:

    • /sales to NDMP node 1

    • /budget to NDMP node 1

    • /marketing to NDMP node 2

  • Restore backup data from NDMP nodes only to NDMP nodes from the same vendor. Non-NDMP backup data cannot be restored to NDMP nodes.

  • If the status of a disk object is offline, you cannot browse the disk in the management console or select it as a restore destination.

  • Use NDMP devices to perform the restore. Use a SAN device if it has at least one NDMP device path. See NDMP Backup and Restore Variations for 7-Mode.

  • NDMP restores must be run by the system administrator or an account with sufficient permission to manipulate storage and write data. Consult the storage vendor documentation for specific NDMP restore permission requirements.
