A Note on Environmental Variables
Certain global configuration settings, termed environment variables, are set outside the management console. Some environment variables are automatically set at installation but can be changed after installation. Others are not provided by the installation but can be implemented after installation to optimize specific environments.
Warning! In general, you should work with Catalogic Software to change or implement environment variables. This is especially true of Windows because changing environment variables in Windows involves registry changes that if done incorrectly could cause a machine to become non-functional.
There are many environment variables. Some variables are implemented in most environments. Commonly used variables of this sort are SSICMAPI (sets general product configuration options such as IP address, port, etc.) and SSPRODIR (sets location of the product directory). Other variables are for use in specific environments. Commonly used variables of this sort are modulename (sets options for a specific module such as SSBROWSE) and SSDSKMAX (sets maximum size of destination volumes for DiskDirectory).
Contact Catalogic Software to determine appropriate environment variable settings for your environment. Many variables can be revised using the Parameter Configuration Interface. See the instructions in the following document:
DPX User's Guide: Parameter Configuration Interface
