AML/SDLC Tape Library Control
The Operate Tape Library window is, by default, accessible only for viewing AML/SDLC slot information. You perform media management at the AML/SDLC itself.
The Operate Tape Library function lets you manage the contents of a tape library. For managing a tape library, follow the steps in Using the Operate Tape Library Window. This section describes the differences between controlling an ordinary tape library and an AML/SDLC virtual tape library.
The Operate Tape Library window for an AML/SDCL differs from the window for an ordinary tape library as follows:
The Format, Label, and Read buttons are inactive.
Slots are not identified by slot number. For an AML/SDLC, DPX does not control physical slots, only logical slots.
Port names are used instead of port numbers. Import ports and export ports are clearly distinguished by use of the port icon. The full port icon is used for an import enabled port; the empty port icon is used for an export enabled port.
Port status field is not used.
Drives that are not pre-defined in the tape library controller are identified with a red blinking icon. These drives are not accessible.
Note. The Operate Tape Library window does not display volsers or bar codes greater than 6 digits.
Some of the Operate Tape Library functions for an AML/SDLC Library are different from the functions for an ordinary tape library as follows:
The Format, Label, and Read functions are not supported.
Only a media volume with a displayed volser and bar code can be loaded, verified, or scanned. The Operate Tape Library window does not display volsers or bar codes greater than 6 digits.
A media volume can only be unloaded to the same (logical) slot from which it was loaded. In actuality, the volume might be placed in a different physical slot. If the volume was not loaded during the current session, it can be unloaded into any empty slot.
You can import tape to tape library only from an import enabled port, and only if there are empty slots shown on the window. If no empty slots are shown, refresh the window. The media volume will be assigned to the tape library when imported.
Only one export enabled port can be selected in a single operation. The exported volume is unassigned from the tape library.
