Terminology for NetApp SnapVault Management

The following terms are used when describing the NetApp SnapVault storage systems:

SnapVault primary storage system (primary)

The NetApp storage system with the ONTAP primary license, which typically contains primary storage such as Common Internet File System (CIFS) and NFS shares or the LUN storage that is provisioned via iSCSI or Fibre Channel.

SnapVault secondary storage system (secondary)

The destination NetApp storage system to which a SnapVault backup is sent for storage.

NetApp OSSV

A SnapVault backup from an open system such as UNIX.

Restrictions. NetApp OSSV backups for the NFS file systems are not supported.

qtree

A logical unit within volume, used to allocate storage on a secondary NetApp storage system. SnapVault uses qtrees on the destination storage system as part of the backup transfer relationship.
