Configuring VMware Protection
Configuring Catalogic DPX for VMware protection consists of the following general steps:
Add at least one VMware vCenter node to the Enterprise. The vCenter node does not require installation, but it must be added to the Enterprise.
If VMware vCenter node is not available, the VMware ESXi host may be added for restore purposes only.
Add at least one virtualization proxy server to the Enterprise. A proxy server handles VMware snapshot processing and communicates with the storage destination and master server. At least one proxy server is required; multiple proxy servers are recommended for optimal performance. A proxy server is created during installation by selecting the virtualization proxy server installation setup type.
Catalogic DPX installation is only required on the proxy server. Agentless VMware backup means that neither the vCenter node nor VMs to be backed up require installation. However, note that VMware Tools is required on VMs to be protected.
There is no need to add VM guests to the Enterprise, since Agentless VMware Backup backs up the VMs through the VMware vCenter and proxy server.
