Audience and Purpose

Catalogic DPX User’s Guide is intended for system administrators, administrators, and other end users of Catalogic DPX. The topics covered assume that your Enterprise is deployed and that the Catalogic Software data protection software is installed and configured.

Catalogic DPX User’s Guide includes seven parts:

  1. The Product Overview section outlines an overview of the Catalogic DPX solution, and how to deploy and use DPX Management Interfaces where you can operate this product.

  2. The Backup Storage Repositories section outlines how to register on-premise storage systems such as Catalogic vSnap and public cloud storage services such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)® with Catalogic DPX and store your backup or archive data in these storage solutions.

  3. The Disk-to-Disk Data Protection section describes procedures for the Catalogic DPX Block Data Protection, Remote Seeding using NetApp storage systems, Instant Access to data, and NetApp SnapVault Management.

  4. The Virtual Environment section describes Full Virtualization, Instant Virtualization, and Rapid Return to Production. Also describes procedures for Agentless VMware® Backup.

  5. The Application Support section describes data protection procedures for major applications, including Microsoft® SharePoint®, Microsoft Exchange Server®, Microsoft SQL Server®, and Oracle Database®. Includes the procedures for verifying the integrity of an application backup. Also describes considerations for Microsoft Windows and Micro Focus® Open Enterprise Server® (OES) Clusters.

  6. The Maintenance section describes procedures for maintaining Catalogic DPX Catalogs and how to manage various types of jobs such as backing up, restoring snapshots, or condensing Catalogs.

  7. The Security section describes additional features that enhance the security of the Catalogic DPX solution.

  8. The Addendum section describes additional topics for less common situations, especially, when you are using Catalogic DPX with very old components.

Less commonly used features and considerations, as well as installation and configuration procedures, are described in the Reference Guide.
