Restore Modes

Restore modes are ways you can restore data. The restore modes are:

Block

Use Block restore to restore data backed up in a Block backup. DPX supports restoring to primary NetApp Storage systems or Open Systems from a secondary storage system. For a comprehensive discussion about Block restore, see Chapter 11: Block Restore in the User’s Guide.

Agentless VMware

Use VMware Restore to restore Agentless VMware Backups. For a comprehensive discussion about Agentless VMware Backup, see Chapter 15: Agentless Backup for VMware in the User’s Guide.

NDMP

Use NDMP restore to restore data backed up in an NDMP backup. DPX restores the data to Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances using Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP). DPX handles the details of communication between nodes running NDMP-compliant software. For a comprehensive discussion about NDMP restore, see Restoring with Generic NDMP.

Image

Use Image restore to restore data that was backed up in an Image backup. Image Restore is sometimes referred to as DPX Image. Image restore supports restoration at the file level. See Source Considerations for Image Restore.

File

In File restore, DPX displays your logical Enterprise tree structure. You can select data to restore at the node group, node, drive, directory, or file level. See Source Considerations for File Restore.

Tape

Use Tape Restore to restore data from one or more media volumes. This option is useful for restoring uncataloged data. In this mode you specify a search pattern. DPX searches the media volume(s) for data that fits the pattern and restores it. See Specifying Source Data for Tape Restore.
