Generic NDMP Backup and Restore Protocol Access
The NDMP login credentials must have sufficient privileges to interact with the NDMP devices. It is recommended to use the appliance administrative root account if available and to configure NDMP challenge credential exchange. Plaintext credential exchange is supported; but it is not recommended because it exposes the login credentials over the network.
An account with more restrictive permissions can be used if it can interact with NDMP requests.
Note the following permissions requirements:
The backup source must have sufficient privilege to access and read data for backup.
An NDMP destination for restore must have sufficient privileges to manipulate storage and write data.
An NDMP endpoint directly connected to a tape or media changer device must have privilege to access SCSI connected devices.
The NDMP device may support setting the default NDMP protocol. NDMP v4 is the recommended setting.
Consult your vendor documentation for procedures to create NDMP capable accounts and to check and set NDMP credential and protocol version defaults.
