Prerequisites for Block Backup to Catalogic DPX Open Storage Servers
Note the following setup considerations for Block backup to the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server.
The Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server cannot be used for any purpose other than Catalogic DPX. Additional applications or data on the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server may reduce backup performance, which in turn may reduce application performance. Additional applications or data also increase the risk of storage data corruption. Note also that it is not recommended to use the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server for DISKDIRECTORY volumes or for reporting applications.
If you have multiple Catalogic DPX Open Storage Servers, consider keeping them in a dedicated node group for ease of use.

Protecting the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Servers
Use Image backup to protect the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Servers. Do not use Block or File backup modes.
Base and incremental Image backups are supported for backup of the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server. Differential backup is not supported for this purpose.
Restore of the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server is at the volume level. File-level restore is not supported.
Image backup is supported for only two purposes: Base and incremental backup of the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server and the base backup stage of a remote seeding operation.
Catalogic DPX Clients
It is recommended to have iSCSI installed and running on all nodes in the Enterprise. The Catalogic DPX Clients use iSCSI Initiator for operations such as Instant Access. See iSCSI Initiator and NFS Transport Protocol in the Reference Guide.
The Catalogic DPX Open Storage Servers and clients must be added to the Catalogic DPX Enterprise as TCP/IP nodes.
To streamline client backup, defragment all volumes before the first (Base) backup
Catalogic DPX Archive
For the Catalogic DPX Archive, a tape library or tape device must be connected by SCSI, iSCSI, or Fibre channel to a device server node supporting the Catalogic DPX Advanced Data Agent. It is recommended that it be the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server node. Robotic arm control is supported. See Protecting Block Backups.
Keep the Catalogic DPX Archive tapes in a dedicated media pool.
