BMR Recovery Considerations
If the entire WSFC cluster is out of service, consider recovery using BMR as described above. If the backup was cluster consistent (that is, all virtual and physical nodes were included), then BMR can be used to recover the whole cluster. If the backup was not cluster consistent (that is, nodes were backed up independent of the virtual object), then BMR can be used to bring one physical node back so that the WSFC cluster and primary replica can be manually restored to operation. This makes time available to recover the other cluster nodes and repopulate the cluster with new secondary replicas.
If the AlwaysOn availability group is still active in cases where a primary or secondary replica server failed but database service is still available, consider using BMR to recover the affected node. Follow Microsoft procedures to correct and re-join the node and databases to the WSFC and availability group, and then migrate the primary replica if needed.
