Step 3. VMware Restore Wizard: Select Source

In this step, browse to the snapshot to restore. This and subsequent steps can differ slightly, depending on which restore option you selected on the previous page of the wizard.

See also. You can check wheather a snapshot is application consistent or not by following the instructions in Application-Consistent Protection.

  1. In the left pane, select the VM to restore. The right pane lists snapshots for the selected VM. If you selected one of the VMDK operations on the Select Operation page, browse to a VM that contains the VMDK to restore and select it.

  2. In the right pane, expand a backup instance, to display the object to restore. Whether snapshots or VMDKs are selectable depends on your choice on the Select Operation page:

  • If you did not select a VMDK operation on the Select Operation page, you can restore only at the VM level. You can expand the backup instance to see VMDKs under a VM, but the VMDKs are not selectable.

  • If you selected a VMDK operation on the Select Operation page, you can select a VMDKs to restore, but Agentless VMware Backup VM snapshot are not selectable.

The snapshot labeled LATEST is always the most current. If you select LATEST and save the restore job, then the restore job is automatically updated in the future to use the most current snapshot.

Restoring from an Alternate Secondary

Note the Alternate Secondary section on the Select Source page. If the snapshot to restore from resides on an alternate secondary, such as a storage system at a remote site, use this section to identify the storage:

Node

Select from the pull-down list a node that contains the snapshot.

Volume

After you select a node, the Volume pull-down list is populated with volumes on that node. Select the volume that contains the snapshot.

Restoring from an alternate secondary is important in scenarios requiring disaster recovery failover from offsite NetApp SnapMirrored snapshots or vStor replication snapshots.

Note that the alternate secondary must be synced with the mirror source.
