DPX NDMP Restore for 7-Mode
SMTape restore is full volume only, thus there are no special options dictating how data is read or restored. For SnapMirror seeding operations, instruct the NetApp storage system to leave behind the SMTape snapshot so that the destination NetApp has a snapshot to refer to for the SnapMirror synchronization. For SnapMirror seeding, the SMTape backup job must include the NDMP environment variable SMTAPE_DELETE_SNAPSHOT=N
. For additional details, read knowledge base article 45777.
Dump restore supports the NDMP Recover Modes available in the Set Job Destination Options dialog:
Extract
This mode scans all tapes in the set for the desired data. Extract is generally supported by most NDMP devices. It usually requires the most processing time.
Direct
When the NDMP Dump backup includes file history, fast selective file restore is possible. The Direct mode uses file history to find the necessary tapes and index points, and it accesses that data directly without scanning all data on the tapes before it.
True Image
NetApp storage systems support reconstructive restore if the True Image option is used. See Job Options for NDMP Restore.
