AML/SDLC Interaction
Following is a description of how DPX and AML/SDLC work together during a backup and restore. These processes go on in the background. To actually run a backup to or a restore from an AML/SDLC, just use the management console as you would with all other tape libraries.
Backup Process. When a backup begins, DPX issues a request to the AML/SDLC library management software, DAS, to mount any volume from a specific scratch pool to a specific drive. DAS mounts the volume and passes back the bar code number of the volume. DPX uses the bar code number to automatically label the volume and adds the volume to the Catalog. When the backup job finishes, DPX unloads the volume. DAS retrieves and stores the volume. DAS keeps track of the location of the volume and DPX keeps track of the contents of the volume.
Restore Process. When a restore begins, DPX issues a request to DAS to mount one or more specific volumes containing the data to be restored. DAS finds and mounts the volume. DPX restores the data. When the restore job finishes, DPX unloads the volume. DAS retrieves and stores the volume and keeps track of the location of the volume.
