Installation Components

The following are the installation components:

  • Master server virtual appliance. The DPX master server appliance is the one machine that holds and manages the Catalog. You perform this deployment once. The DPX master server appliance is deployed as an OVA. The management console and its web server are installed with the master server automatically when you deploy the DPX master server appliance. The web server uses default port 6122. Typically, the management console can be accessed from most workstations on the network. The user manuals and client software are automatically installed on the DPX master server appliance when it is deployed.

  • Client software (for clients and device servers). Install this on device servers and any client node you want to back up.

  • Virtualization proxy server software. Install this on the node that coordinates operations for virtualization restores and for agentless backup of virtual machines.

  • DPX open storage server software. Install this on those Windows servers intended for Block backup or Agentless VMware backup to DPX open storage servers. DPX open storage environments allow for block-level incremental backup or Agentless VMware backup for Windows and Linux clients to any storage attached to a supported 64-bit Windows server.

  • vStor server software. After DPX is deployed, install one or more vStor servers as either a virtual or physical appliance. See Chapter 4: Catalogic vStor in the User's Guide.

A master server can be backed up; however, it is not necessary to separately install client software on the master server. A master server can be used as a device server or as a open storage server.
