Unmapping a Block Backup Instance from a Drive Letter
Mapping a Block backup instance to a drive letter is intended to provide temporary, near-instant access to data in a backup instance. When you no longer need the Instant Access connection, unmap the mapped drive. This makes the drive letter available for other uses and frees space used on the storage system for changes during the Instant Access connection.
Attention! Before unmapping the backup instance, ensure that other applications are not using the mapped drive. When you unmap, any non-recovered data written to the mapped drive since the mapping is lost.
To unmap a Block backup from a Windows or Linux drive:
From the management console, select Restore > Block.
In the left pane (restore source), right-click the node that contains the drive to unmap.
From the context menu, select Show Mapped Drives. The Instant Access Unmapping dialog box appears.
From the Drive List pull-down menu, select the drive or mount point to unmap.
Click Unmap.
Confirm or cancel the operation in the dialog box that displays. A message box indicating successful unmapping appears. Click OK. If an Unsafe Removal of Device message appears, click OK to dismiss it.
Attention! Before unmapping the backup instance, ensure that other applications are not using the mapped drive. When you unmap, any non-recovered data written to the mapped drive since the mapping is lost.
