Steps to Restore VMs with Catalogic DPX

After you select a snapshot and virtualization type, a series of wizard screens will be presented, where you enter information to create the VM.

Note. You will need information on hand to fill out fields in the wizard screens. Information you will need is noted in the following high-level list of steps to create a VM.

  1. Select a snapshot and choose virtualization type. For details, see Creating VMs with Full Virtualization or Instant Virtualization.

  2. Define the new VM. Enter values in the Virtual Machine Information wizard screen. The virtual machine name cannot exceed 75 characters.

  3. Select resources on the ESX server or vCenter Server for the new VM. Catalogic DPX discovers resources and displays them in pull-down lists in the Select Resources wizard screen. You will select the following resources on the ESX server or vCenter Server:

    • Host

    • Datastore for VM

    • Resource Pool or vApp

    • Network

    • iSCSI Adapter

    • VM Folder

  4. Specify network connections for the new VM. Enter values in the Enter Network Information wizard screen. If not provided by the DHCP server, you will need to provide the following network configuration parameters for the new VM:

    • Virtual Machine IP

    • Virtual Machine Subnet Mask

    • Virtual Machine Gateway

    • Virtual Machine DNS

    • Virtual Machine DNS Search Path

If you use DHCP, ensure the DHCP server is reachable; this may require a DHCP relay.

  5. Optionally select a virtualization proxy server to use instead of the master server, and specify the location of the ISO to use for booting the VM.

  6. Review your entries and selections in the Summary wizard screen.

  7. Save and run your virtualization job.

Note. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x only, apply manual steps, which are required due to a new network device naming convention for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x. You will need to configure the NIC IP address, subnet mask, and gateway IP address.
