Specifying an Automatic Migrate Operation
After File, Image, or NDMP backups, a Migrate operation can be scheduled to run automatically. The Migrate operation copies your backed up data from one media volume to another. This is especially beneficial for virtual tape library (VTL) to physical tape migration (V2P), and for migrating Backup to DiskDirectory jobs to tape.
To specify an automatic Migrate operation, add a Migrate job schedule element to the backup job schedule, as follows:
Define the backup job including the backup job schedule.
With the backup job definition open, open the job schedule dialog by clicking Backup > Schedule from the menu bar.
On the job schedule dialog, select the Schedule tab. Your job schedule elements appear in the Schedule Description box.
Note. If the backup job is to be run ad hoc and no backup schedule exists, the Schedule Description Box will be empty. You can still schedule an automatic migrate operation, which will be associated with this backup job. After the backup completes, the next migrate operation will actually migrate the data.
Click New to add a new job schedule element.
From the Run drop down menu, select Migrate.
By selecting from the drop down menu to the right of the Run Migrate box, choose whether to schedule the Migrate operation to run immediately after the backup completes or to run at a later time. If you choose to run at a later time, define the schedule element by populating the options on the dialog.
From the menus provided, select the device cluster and media pool to use as the migration destination.
Optionally update the Migrate options.
Click Apply. The Migrate operation is added to the list of job schedule elements for that job.
Save the job definition.
Note. When the Migrate operation runs, all tape partitions used for this job will be migrated. If some past backups (of the same job based on job name) hadn’t been migrated, they will be currently migrated. Migration logic applies from the time the Migrate job schedule element is added, not before.
