Prerequisites for Block Backup with NetApp Storage
Read through the prerequisites in this section when you protect your data by using the Catalogic Block Backup and NetApp storage systems.

Pre-Configuration Considerations for Block Backup to NetApp Storage
All nodes require configuration in Catalogic DPX. Before you begin configuration, note the following considerations:
Ensure that https access is enabled on the NetApp storage system, using port 443. Catalogic DPX always attempts https connection first. If https is not enabled or cannot be used for any reason, Catalogic DPX uses HTTP.
Catalogic DPX uses SnapVault qtrees to store the Catalogic DPX client's primary data. There is generally one qtree created on the secondary for each backup source on the primaries.
The minimum amount of free disk space required on the SnapVault Primary to run Block backup jobs is 10% of the total volume size for volumes smaller than 5 GB and 500 MB for volumes greater than or equal to 5 GB. For additional information, read the knowledge base article 42410. Note that Microsoft may have a larger free space requirement for VSS use.
On any Microsoft Windows system with Catalogic DPX Client, Windows Filter Manager (FltMgr) service is required. This service is typically installed and enabled by default.
Secondary systems must be running the NetApp Data ONTAP 7.4 or later. Secondary systems must also be configured with NDMP version 4 or later. For details about setting NDMP versions, see NDMP Backup and Restore Protocol Access for 7-Mode in the Reference Guide.
SnapVault is enabled through license keys. See Pre-Configuring Nodes for Block Backup to NetApp Storage in this section.
An Enterprise can support a mix of data protection storage: the Catalogic DPX Open Storage and the NetApp storage. However, it is strongly recommended to protect the Catalogic DPX Client with only one type of storage.
