Prerequisites for Restoring Microsoft Exchange Server Assets
When you restore a database, the same or a new empty database must already exist as a destination. If the database is not present, you need to create it, using Exchange Management Console or Exchange Shell.
Restores from a standalone Exchange server to a DAG are supported. In this case, following the restore you must create a passive database copy and seed it. See Post-Restore: Reseeding the Passive DAG Database.
Restores from DAG to standalone Exchange servers are supported.
Restore to a DAG database requires that replication among DAG nodes is suspended before the restore begins. See Suspending the Passive Database Copy in a DAG. After the restore you must reseed the restored database to its replicated copies. See Post-Restore: Reseeding the Passive DAG Database.
Restore of an active DAG database to a passive DAG database is not supported.
Restoring Mailbox databases from previous versions of Exchange is not supported.
