Adding Media to a Library Controlled by the Manufacturer’s Interface

For certain types of storage libraries, you add media volumes to scratch pools through the hardware interface of the manufacturer, not from within DPX. When you later perform a backup, DPX automatically adds the new media volumes to the appropriate media pools.

Adding Media Volumes to an ACS Pool

When adding tapes to a media pool for use with a StorageTek Automated Cartridge System (ACS), in the ACS System Administrator (ACSSA), enter the tapes into the scratch pool, making DPX the exclusive owner of the tapes. In DPX, define a media pool as you normally would but in the Media Pool Name field use the naming convention described in Adding a Media Pool.

When you later perform a backup, DPX automatically adds to the appropriate media pools any tapes you have assigned to the scratch pool in the ACS.

Adding Media Volumes to an IBM 3494 Pool

When adding media volumes to a media pool for use with an IBM Magstar 3494 Tape Library, in the IBM 3494 Library Manager, reserve two categories for DPX. Assign tapes to one of the categories that you use as a scratch pool. Make sure there are no tapes in the other category.

In DPX, define a media pool as you normally would, but in the Media Pool Name field use the naming convention described in Adding a Media Pool.

When you later perform a backup, DPX automatically adds to the appropriate media pools any volumes you have added to the scratch pool category using Library Manager.

Adding Media Volumes to an AML or SDLC Pool

When adding media volumes to a media pool for use with an ADIC Automated Mixed-Media Library (AML) or Scalar Distributed Library Controller (SDLC), using the AML library management software, DAS, add tapes to an AML/SDLC scratch pool. In DPX, define a media pool as you normally would, but in the Media Pool Name field use the naming convention described in Adding a Media Pool.

When you later perform a backup, DPX automatically adds to the appropriate media pools any tapes you have assigned to the scratch pool in the AML/SDLC.
