OpenText GroupWise Restore
Recovery Scenarios for GroupWise 2014 are enumerated in the Administration Guide for Micro Focus Groupwise 2014, which can be found at http://www.Micro Focus.com/documentation. The recovery scenarios are in the chapter called Restoring GroupWise Databases from Backup.
For older versions of GroupWise, recovery scenarios are discussed below.
The following sections describes five restore scenarios:
Restore Scenario 1: Disaster Recovery – All GroupWise Information Lost
Restore Scenario 2: Disaster Recovery – One GroupWise Server Lost
Restore Scenario 3: Disaster Recovery – Bad Post Office Data
Restore Scenario 4: Individual Message Recovery
Restore Scenario 5: User Account Recovery
Restore Scenario 1: Disaster Recovery – All GroupWise Information Lost
If all GroupWise information is lost from an NDS tree, the GroupWise information must first be restored to its original location.
Select the GroupWise resource in the Sources pane in the Restore window.
Select the new location for the restore in the Destination pane.
Run the Restore.
Note. If possible, restore the data to a location with the same server name and directory as the original location.
Use the GroupWise installation CD to extend the NDS schema if NDS was rebuilt from scratch.
Run the agent installation program from the software distribution directory of any new server to:
Set up the GRPWISE.NCF file
Create startup files for the various GroupWise agents.
Graft the GroupWise resources into NDS. For more information on grafting, see the GroupWise documentation available at http://support.MicroFocus.com.
If services are on servers with different names than their original, do the following:
Connect to the primary domain.
Make the appropriate changes.
Rebuild other domain and post office address books to distribute the new locations and changes.
Restore Scenario 2: Disaster Recovery – One GroupWise Server Lost
If only one server with GroupWise services is lost, the restore process is less complicated than Scenario 1. In this case, the restore procedures in Scenario 1 can be used, although step 4 can be skipped. If the GroupWise server with the primary domain information was lost, do the following:
Promote a secondary domain to the primary. If the secondary domain does not exist, use the Scenario 1 procedures (except step 4).
Redo and verify all GroupWise domain links based on the new domain topology.
Rebuild the lost domain on the new server.
Change and verify all domain links as necessary.
Promote the restored server’s domain back to primary, if desired.
Restore Scenario 3: Disaster Recovery – Bad Post Office Data
If current post office information has been corrupted, it must be overwritten with the restored data.
Bring down the POA (post office agent).
Run DPX and restore the post office to its original location.
Rebuild the post office address book (wphost.db) from its parent domain.
Restart the POA.
Restore Scenario 4: Individual Message Recovery
For restoring individual email messages, the post office is restored to a separate location and then accessed as a GroupWise Restore Area.
Using DPX, restore the GroupWise post office to a separate area.
Set up a restore area.
In ConsoleOne, click Tools > GroupWise System Operations > Restore Area Management.
Click Create to set up a new restore area.
On the Identification tab, specify a unique name for the new restore area. If desired, provide a lengthier description to further identify the restore area.
In the UNC Path field, browse and select the directory you want to use as a restore area.
Click the Membership tab.
Click Add to select one or more post offices or users that need access to the new restore area, then click OK to add them to the membership list.
When the membership list is complete, click OK to create the new restore area.
Verify that the users who access the storage area have read and write file system access to that directory. This step provides users with the File > Open Backup option on their Micro Focus GroupWise clients
Click and select File > Open Backup from the menu bar.
Users are given access to their files from the restored post office information.
In the right pane, select individual items to restore. Right-click and select Restore from the context menu.
When you are finished restoring items to your live mailbox, Click and select File > Open Backup from the menu bar again. This removes the check mark from the Open Backup option, and you are returned to your live mailbox.
Restore Scenario 5: User Account Recovery
If a user’s GroupWise account was deleted and the user’s email exists in a specific backup, use the following procedure:
Identify the deleted account’s Object ID.
Click the Membership tab.
. Click Add, select one or more post offices or users that need access to the new restore area, then click OK to add them to the membership list.
When the membership list is complete, click OK to create the new restore area.
Grant the POA (post office agent) read and write privileges to the new restore area.
Using DPX, make available a backup copy of a domain database (wpdomain.db) where the deleted GroupWise account still exists.
In ConsoleOne, click Tools > GroupWise Utilities > Recover Deleted Account.
Browse and select the backup copy of the domain database.
Select the user or resource that you need to recover the account for.
Click Next.
If desired, click Save to Clipboard, paste it into a file, then save or print it.
Click Next.
Click Finish. The Success screen appears.
Click Done.
At this point, you have restored the user’s or resource’s GroupWise account into the GroupWise system. However, this does not restore ownership of resources, nor does the account's mailbox contain items yet.
In ConsoleOne, browse to and select a User object for which you need to restore mailbox items.
Click Tools > GroupWise Utilities > Backup/Restore Mailbox.
The Restore tab is automatically selected for you, with the restore area and directory location displayed for verification.
Click Yes to restore the selected user’s mailbox items into his or her mailbox.
Click OK.
Restart GroupWise Client and allow some time to finish the restore process. For more information on Restore Area Management, Recover Deleted Account, Backup/Restore Mailbox, see the GroupWise 6.0 and higher documentation available at http://support.MicroFocus.com.
