Backup Tab
Use the Backup modes to create a backup definition and to schedule and launch backup jobs. In the Backup tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
File
Performs a logical backup at the node group, node, drive, directory, or file level.
Image
Image backup performs a block-level backup. It specifically excludes free space to streamline the backup process.
Primary Uses
Remote Seeding Base Backup:
Image backup is utilized primarily as a foundational backup for remote seeding. It sets the initial data landscape for this purpose.
Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server Protection:
For safeguarding the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server, Image backup is employed initially as a base backup. This is subsequently followed by incremental backups, maintaining up-to-date protection.
Limitations
Image backup does not support incremental or differential backup methods for clients directly.
However, existing incremental or differential backups from upgraded environments (if present in the Catalog and preserved) are usable for restoration.
Tip. In Linux environments, Image backup is restricted to only base backups for remote seeding.
NDMP
Performs a backup of NDMP nodes to NDMP devices.
Block
Performs a block-level backup to either Catalogic DPX open storage or NetApp storage. After an initial base backup, only changed blocks are transferred to storage.
Agentless VMware
Uses Agentless VMware Backup functionality to protect VMs.
