Cloud Storage

You can archive Block data or Agentless VMware data and store these archive data in supported cloud storages: Amazon S3, generic cloud storage that is typically compatible with the Amazon S3 API, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, and Alibaba Cloud. You can also store NDMP backups (desktop interface only) in the cloud storage.

See also. For the latest system compatibility details regarding supported hardware, file systems, applications, operating systems, and service packs, see the DPX 4.10 Compatibility Matrix.

Create a bucket on the cloud provider. Add the cloud provider as a Device Cluster and create an associated Media Pool. The media will automatically be managed. A backup job instance must exist and be backed up to Catalogic vStor before an archive job can be created based on the backup.

Prerequisites for Registering Cloud Storage

Review the following prerequisite items before registering your cloud storage with Catalogic DPX:

  • Every device must be a member of one and only one device cluster.

  • All devices in a cluster must use the same media. For example, devices that use disk directories and devices that use tape cannot be in the same device cluster.

  • A single device cluster cannot contain both devices on a Storage Area Network (SAN) and devices directly connected to a server. They must be in separate device clusters.

A failed archive job that is a base will force the next backup to be a base even if it is scheduled to be incremental or differential.

To use the node as a Cloud Proxy when the firewall is enabled, the node must have the NIB_PORT_RANGE set, and the NDMP ports must be open.

Limit the available port range configuration using the NIB_PORT_RANGE option. Note that the number of ports in the range must be at least as many as the number of concurrent NDMP operations.

Restrictions. You can edit most parameters from the desktop interface. This functionality is not yet available in the web interface.

Configuring the NIB_PORT_RANGE Parameter

Before registering cloud storage with Catalogic DPX, take the following steps to configure the NIB_PORT_RANGE parameter:

  1. Open the Parameter Configuration Interface.

See also. For more information about how to configure parameters such as NIB_PORT_RANGE on the Catalogic DPX Parameter Configuration Interface, follow the instructions in Configuring Parameters.

  1. Select nibbler (Advanced data/device server) from the available modules on the Advanced Server tape server node.

  2. Enable Basic Visibility, check the NIB_PORT_RANGE option and define the range of ports, e.g. 50000-50030.

  3. Ensure that the corresponding TCP port range remains open on the firewall.
