Adding Disks to Catalogic vStor

You can add more disks to the vStor server to provide increased space for storage pools. For virtual deployments, disks can be RDM or virtual disks from datastores. In physical deployments, they can be local or SAN storage. VStor can create RAID-based storage pools for internal redundancy. Once you have added disks to a vStor server, you can rescan to detect newly attached disks.

Prerequisites

Before adding a disk to the vStor server:

  • Ensure disks are unformatted and unpartitioned before adding to the server.

  • Once the disk has been added to the vStor server, you can rescan to detect the newly attached disk. To do this, Select Dashboard from the left-side menu and click on Rescan in the Disks section.

To manually scan disks using the CLI, run:

vstor disk rescan
  • Available disks will automatically appear when adding disks in the vStor Web Interface.

  • Once added, disks will appear in the Disks table.

Adding Disks to Catalogic vStor

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://<vStor_hostname_or_IP>:8900.

  2. Log in with admin credentials.

  3. In the navigation menu, click Storage.

  4. In the Storage section, find and select Add Disk in the Disks table.

  5. Choose how the disk will be used: Expand Pool, Log Disk, Cache Disk, or Spare Disk.

  6. In the Add Disk to Pool dialog, select your disk. If none are available, you’ll see No data to display.

  7. Click OK to add the disk.

The disk is now listed in the Disks table and ready to use. The Disks By Type graph updates to reflect this addition.
