File Restore from File Backup

DPX allows you to restore files or directories protected by DPX agent workloads stored on tape or disk.

Prerequisites

Before you proceed with the restoration process, ensure that the backup storage, whether on tape or disk, is accessible and in a healthy state.

Tip. Before starting a restore job, verify that the backup data is intact and that there are no issues with the backup media.

Creating File Restore from File Backup Job

To begin the process of restoring files, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Job Manager in the sidebar.

  2. Click New Restore Job to open the New Restore dialog.

  1. Select File Restore from File Backup and click Next. A list will appear showing all files and directories backed up by previous file backup jobs.

  1. Select files or directories you wish to restore and click Next.

    • You can select files and directories from different volumes and nodes.

    • Entire nodes or volumes cannot be selected.

    • Use dropdowns in the Backup Date/Time column to choose an earlier backup version (if available). You can customize your file search criteria using the Advanced Selection slider (see below).

Filter Versions

Filter from

Use the radio buttons to narrow down the version selection for your files or directories.

  • Last base backup (default) – show versions starting from the latest base backup

  • Oldest backup – show versions from the oldest backup available

  • Custom date – show versions created after the date and time specified

Filter to

  • Latest backup (default) – show versions up to the latest backup

  • Custom date – show versions created before the date and time specified

Include expired jobs

Toggle on to extend the search upon backup jobs that have already expired.

Include offsite media

Toggle on to include tapes marked as offsite

Skip intermediate incremental/differential backups

Toggle on to exclude incremental and differential backups between the last base backup and the most recent version.

Search Files

Search by name

Use * and ? as wildcards to enhance your search.

Dated from

Search files by age:

  • Oldest (default)

  • Custom date – show files created after the date and time specified

Dated to

Search files by age:

  • Latest (default)

  • Custom date – show files created before the date and time specified

Size

Select maximum or minimum file size in kB or MB.

Include subdirectories

Toggle on to search recursively (default).

Case sensitive

Toggle on to enable case sensitivity in searching by name (default).

  1. Specify job options. This job can be tailored to meet specific recovery needs through a variety of settings and parameters.

  1. Click Save. The restore job definition will be saved.

  1. Review the summary of your job and click Restore. The job will run. If you want to run the job later, click Close. You will find the job in the Job Manager.
