VMware Encryption

VMware vSphere provides a native VM encryption feature, and DPX fully supports backing up virtual machines with VM encryption enabled. During backup, DPX accesses the VM data in decrypted form through the VMware APIs, so the encrypted virtual machines are protected correctly.

Restoring encrypted VMs is also supported and will complete successfully. However, the restored virtual machines will not have encryption enabled — the disks are created without the original VM encryption policy. If you require the restored VM to remain encrypted, you must reapply the appropriate encryption storage policy after the restore and ensure that a Key Management Server (KMS) is properly configured in the destination vCenter environment.
