Establishing Cross-Version Partnerships

vStor is designed to support connections between instances that are within two version releases of each other. With the introduction of role-based access control in vStor 4.11, users must be aware of the authentication requirements when establishing partnerships across different versions. This compatibility ensures that users can leverage the benefits of vStor across different versions with minimal disruption.

Authentication for Cross-Version Partnerships

When initiating a partnership between two vStor instances, authentication credentials are required to secure and validate the connection. The process varies depending on the versions of the vStor instances involved.

Connecting from an Older to a Newer vStor Instance

  • Scenario: When an older vStor version attempts to connect to a newer version (4.11 or later, with role-based access control).

  • Authentication: Only admin credentials can be used, as the older version cannot authenticate Standard users.

  • Purpose: Admin credentials ensure connection establishment, given the older version's limitations in recognizing newer access control features.
