File Restore from Block Backup

This restore mode is used to restored files that were backed up using Block Backup. You can select and restore single or multiple files or directories.

Prerequisites

  • Successful block backup to vStor

  • Originally backed up VM or a VM with the same operating system family (Linux or Windows) as the source machine

Running a File Restore from Block Backup

  1. Log in to the DPX Master Server.

  2. Select Job Manager from the sidebar, then click New Restore Job in the upper right corner of the Jobs tab.

  1. Scroll down to select File Restore from Block Backup, then click Next.

  1. Select the backup you want to restore from, then click Next.

  1. Select the volume you want to restore, then click Next.

  1. Select the recovery point, i.e. the point in time from which you want to restore the data, then click Next.

  1. Select the entire volume (default) or individual files to restore from the backup. Click Next.

  1. Specify a job name, and click Next.

Tip. When running a test restore, where the files or directories are still available in their original location, switch the Set alternate destination toggle to on, select the target node, and then the directory where you want to restore the data to.

  1. Review the job definition summary, and click Save.

  1. When prompted to confirm running the job, click Yes. You will be redirected to the Job Monitor view filtered with the job’s name, where you can monitor the progress of the job instance.

Once the job instance is finished successfully, you will see the Completed status in green.
