Agentless VMware Backup
Agentless VMware Backup protects your data at the virtual machine level. “Agentless” means there is no need to install DPX Client on the virtual machines, as all communication is done through the vCenter’s API.
Prerequisites
Adding VMware vCenter as a Node
VMware is a special node type used for communicating with a VMware vCenter server. The vCenter server is used to coordinate agentless backup and restore operations.
Log in to the DPX Master Server.
Select Nodes from the sidebar, then click Add Node in the upper right corner of the Nodes tab.

Complete the required fields (*), including:
Type – select VMware vCenter/ESXi
Node name – must be unique within the DPX Master Server
Resolvable hostname or IP address of your vCenter
Group name – leave default or create a new node group
Port number – leave default (443), unless your vCenter uses a custom configuration
Username – specify the user with access to all the virtual machines you want to back up
Password – the password to the user account specified above
Click Test to check the connection and accessibility to the vStor.
Click Save. Your vCenter has been added to the list.
Running a VMware Backup
Backups in DPX are handled as jobs. Each job requires a definition, and multiple instances of a job may exist once the job definition is created.
Creating an Agentless VMware Job Definition
Log in to the DPX Master Server.
Select Job Manager from the sidebar, then click New Backup Job in the upper right corner of the Jobs tab.

Complete the required fields, including:
Job name – must be unique within the DPX Master Server
Job type – select VMware
Sources – click Add Source. Select the Windows VM and the Linux VM, then click Select.
Destination – click Set Destination. Select your vStor, then select the volume where the backup will be stored. Click Select.
If the selected machines have DPX Client installed, go to Advanced Options > Source Options and switch on the Include VMs with DPX client installed toggle. Otherwise, they will be ignored during backup.
Click Save in the lower right corner. You will be prompted to confirm you want to run the job.
Click Yes. You will be redirected to the Job Monitor view filtered by the job’s name, where you can monitor the progress of the job instance. The status will be Running.
Switch on the Auto refresh toggle to follow the progress in real time, or click the job name to view job instance details.
Once the job instance is finished successfully, you will see the Completed status in green. Your file backup is now done.
