DPX 4.15 Release Notes
New Features in DPX 4.15
This release adds full NDMP support in the web interface, expands VMware backup features with VM tag-based job configuration, and enables encryption for VMware cloud archive jobs.
NDMP Backup and Restore
Node Management
Users can now manage NDMP nodes directly from the web interface, which provides full parity with the legacy Java GUI for NDMP operations.
Job Management
Create, edit, and manage NDMP backup and restore jobs through the web interface with improved usability and workflow.
VMware Backup by VM tags
VMware backup jobs can target virtual machines by vCenter tags, allowing flexible and dynamic backup policies. Administrators select one or more tags in the job definition to include VMs with any selected tags automatically. This feature simplifies backup management in environments using vCenter’s tagging system.
VMware Encrypted VM Support
Backup and restore of VMware VMs with encrypted virtual disks are supported.
Encryption for VMware Cloud Archive Jobs
Agentless VMware archive jobs now support encrypting data sent to the configured cloud or S3 target. DPX encrypts and decrypts data, ensuring security regardless of the chosen S3 target.
Aggregated Events Handling
Aggregated event notifications now include all the details as a PDF attachment; there is no need to review them in the DPX UI.
OES Node Management
OES node management is now available in the web interface.
Show Running Jobs Toggle
Choose whether to always show running instances in the Job Monitor view with a single UI toggle.
Double Protection Job Names
The original backup job name is now displayed next to the auto-generated double protection job name for improved report and UI clarity.
Media Information in Reports
The tape names used in jobs are now included in the Job Summary and Daily Overview reports.
New Features in vStor 4.15
This release delivers KMIP-based key management, improved image mounting and restore workflows, per-volume deletion lock policies, SMB share access in volume permissions, and enhanced visibility and control for offload and replication processes.
KMIP Keystore Support
vStor now supports KMIP-based key management, including keystore configuration and migration workflows for stronger encryption key control. Administrators can configure KMIP keystore preferences via the UI and CLI, with migration support for moving keys between keystore backends. KMIP configuration is included in vStor backup and disaster recovery procedures.
Improved Image Mounting
The disk image mounting process now runs as a background task, with clearer progress and outcome reporting and partial-success status reported at the disk and filesystem level. Mounting workflows can now be created directly from offloaded snapshots, expanding restore options for offloaded data.
Raw File Restore to SMB
Mounted images now support restoring raw files directly to SMB shares without ZIP packaging, simplifying the file-level restore operations.
Per-Volume Deletion Lock Policy
The deletion lock policy can now be configured at the volume level for newly created snapshots, enabling stronger per-workload retention control.
SMB Share Access in Volume-Level Permissions
Administrators can now manage volume permissions at the volume level, including SMB share access. Selected users can be granted access to SMB shares on volumes alongside existing volume access controls.
Relationship UX Improvements
Relationship workflows now offer enhanced visibility and control through improved filtering, clearer scheduling and partner information, better session handling, and a safer operational flow. The new session table component and enhanced session visibility in volume and replication views further improve the user experience.
