Editing a Multiple VM Restore from Archive Job

Editing a Multiple VM Restore from Archive job allows you to change the parameters of an already saved job. The procedure is the same as creating one.

1. In the main web interface view, go to Job Manager in the sidebar. Then select the job you want to edit from the list.

Tip.

You can control this view by ordering items by Job Name, Type, Created Date, Description, or Job Folder. Just click the column header to enable ascending/descending ordering.

Note also the Items per page value and navigation buttons at the bottom of the list, which can be useful when managing the display of many jobs.

2. Make all required changes to the job definition. The workflow is the same as in Creating a Multiple VM Restore from Archive Job.
3. Save the job by clicking Save (the changes are saved under the current job name, overwriting the previous settings), or Save as… (the New Job Name dialog opens, where you save the changes as a new job).

In the New Job Name dialog, enter a new, unique name. Enable Replace existing job to overwrite an existing job that already uses that name, then click Save.

Restrictions.

Two choices made when the job is created cannot be changed during editing:

• the Job Name – to save your changes under a different name, use Save as…, which creates a new job;
• the Automatically restore to vCenter setting – its toggle is not available when editing, so a job that restores the archived data only cannot be switched to recover the virtual machines, or vice versa.

Jobs that recover the virtual machines have additional restrictions on what can be edited, described below.

Jobs That Recover the Virtual Machines

When a job recovers the virtual machines, DPX maintains two linked jobs – a restore from media job and a Multi-VM Restore – which appear as separate entries in Job Manager and are edited individually. Because the two jobs form an interdependent chain, the settings that link them are locked, and a disabled field shows a tooltip indicating that it is part of an archive recovery and cannot be edited:

• Restore from media job (dpr-{timestamp}) – only the Source Options and Script Options can be edited; all other settings are locked.
• Multi-VM Restore job – the virtual machine selection, the recovery point of each machine, and the Allow restore from alternate secondary option and the volume it uses cannot be changed.
