The Monitor Jobs tab lets you track the status of jobs currently running or scheduled and make on-the-fly changes. In the Monitor Jobs tab, you can see a list of jobs in the main panel. In the task panel, you can manage your jobs in the following ways:
Start new jobs or suspend ongoing ones
Cancel jobs
Resume jobs that have been paused
Reschedule jobs
Access job-based operations for more advanced controls
Review and adjust your scheduled jobs
You can click one of the jobs in the list, or, right-click the job and click Monitor to see detailed information about the job: summary, source, and log.
Use the Restore modes to create a restore definition and to schedule and launch restore jobs. In the Restore tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Allows you to select data to restore at the node group, node, drive, directory, or file level.
Restores data backed up in an Image backup. Image Restore supports restoration at the file level.
Performs a restore of NDMP data.
Restores data from a Block Backup. Block restore also supports Instant Access and other features of the Catalogic DPX Block Data Protection.
Restores data backed up in an Agentless VMware Backup.
Restores data from an uncataloged media volume.
Use the Control Devices operation to manage storage devices, tape libraries, and media volumes. In the Control Devices tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Acquire drives, format tape, scan tape, write labels, and perform other device control functions for tape libraries and stand-alone storage devices.
Schedule tape library drive cleaning.
In the DPX Desktop Management Interface, you can switch between mode pages by clicking the tabs in the Function Tab Bar. You have access to the following tabs:
Backup Tab can be used for creating and managing backup jobs, including logical and block-level backups, as well as facilitating NDMP nodes and Agentless VMware Backup for virtual machines.
Restore Tab can be used for setting up and executing restore jobs, with capabilities for file-level, NDMP data, and Block Backup restorations, along with support for uncataloged media and Agentless VMware Backup.
Monitor Jobs Tab can be used for monitoring all active jobs in real time, allowing users to observe, and modify filter backup, restore, and copy jobs based on various criteria.
Control Devices Tab can be used for managing and configuring storage devices, tape libraries, and media volumes within the DPX environment.
Reports Tab can be used for accessing detailed reports on the DPX environment, covering aspects such as administrators, storage device clusters, and tape libraries, complete with essential details.
Catalog Tab can be used for maintaining the Catalog, including backing up, restoring, and reducing the Catalog size by removing expired media. It also provides functionalities for record-by-record maintenance of the Catalog.
Copy Tab can be used for defining and overseeing copy jobs to transfer disk files to specified destinations, with options for source and destination settings, and data encryption.
Manage Tapes Tab can be used for handling tapes within the DPX environment. It provides functionalities for migrating data from one media volume to another.
Configure Tab can be used for modifying various DPX environment settings, such as devices, administrators, and media volumes.
The Analytics tab is a legacy element which is now disabled. You can perform basic analytics tasks using the Reports tab.
Tip. You can right-click a function tab to open it in a new window.
Reports Tab provides a listing of all storage device clusters in the Enterprise. The report includes the device cluster name, device type, and number of devices in the device cluster. In the Reports tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Provides a listing of tape libraries in the Enterprise. The report includes information such as the tape library name, associated node, and number of devices attached.
Provides a listing of all storage devices in the Enterprise. The report includes information such as device name, associated device cluster, associated node, and status.
Provides a listing of all media pools in the Enterprise. The report includes the pool name, media type, minimum number of media in the pool, and current number of media in the pool.
Provides a listing of all tapes in all media pools in the Enterprise. The report includes information such as media type, associated media pool, and status.
Provides a listing of all administrators in this Enterprise. The report includes administrator names, groups, and privilege classes.
Provides a listing of all administrator groups in this Enterprise. The report includes administrator groups and the resources assigned to them.
Provides a listing of all jobs in the Enterprise. The report includes information such as job name, job status, and start time.
Provides a listing of tape migration job activity.
Provides a listing of all jobs in the Catalog for the Enterprise.
Use the Backup modes to create a backup definition and to schedule and launch backup jobs. In the Backup tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Performs a logical backup at the node group, node, drive, directory, or file level.
Image backup performs a block-level backup. It specifically excludes free space to streamline the backup process.
Remote Seeding Base Backup:
Image backup is utilized primarily as a foundational backup for remote seeding. It sets the initial data landscape for this purpose.
Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server Protection:
For safeguarding the Catalogic DPX Open Storage Server, Image backup is employed initially as a base backup. This is subsequently followed by incremental backups, maintaining up-to-date protection.
Image backup does not support incremental or differential backup methods for clients directly.
However, existing incremental or differential backups from upgraded environments (if present in the Catalog and preserved) are usable for restoration.
Tip. In Linux environments, Image backup is restricted to only base backups for remote seeding.
Performs a backup of NDMP nodes to NDMP devices.
Performs a block-level backup to either Catalogic DPX open storage or NetApp storage. After an initial base backup, only changed blocks are transferred to storage.
Uses Agentless VMware Backup functionality to protect VMs.
Use the Catalog operations to maintain the Catalog. In the Catalog tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Attention! Back up the Catalog regularly to be prepared for disaster recovery scenarios.
Reduce the size of your Catalog and remove expired media from the Catalog.
Perform record-by-record maintenance of the Catalog.
Back up the Catalog. Regular backups of the Catalog are critical for disaster recovery scenarios.
Restore a backup of the Catalog.
Use the Configure operations to define new resources and default options to Catalogic DPX. After initial configuration, use the Configure functions to display and modify your defined resources. In the Configure tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Tip. Enterprise is a collective resource, which includes nodes, storage devices, media, and administrators.
Names the Enterprise, defines nodes in the Enterprise, and arranges nodes in groups. Also manages parameter configuration.
Defines tape libraries and their tape drives. Also defines storage devices not associated with a tape library and arranges them in device clusters.
Defines media volumes, usually tape cartridges, and arranges them in media pools.
Defines privileged users such as administrators and specifies their privileges by assigning them privilege classes and resources.
Defines sets of jobs to assign job privileges.
Controls the management of data encryption keys.
Sets default options for backup, restore, and migrate jobs.
Defines days when scheduled jobs may be skipped.
Use the Manage Tapes operations to create tape migrate definitions, and to schedule and launch jobs to migrate media volumes.
The main panel shows the page for tape operations about data migration. You can copy or append data from one media volume to another of the same media type or a different one.
Use the Copy function to create copies of disk files to a selected destination. In the Copy tab, you can open the following pages from the task panel:
Define a copy job and schedule a copy job or open, save, and delete an existing job.
Copy the selected data either in the background or monitored.
Additional settings for a copy job such as setting the source and destination or encrypting the copied data.
The Analytics tab is a legacy element which is now disabled. You can perform basic analytics tasks using the Reports functionality.
